It prolongs breeding season, which makes birds aggressive and difficult to get along with. Joey is a good bird and I don't want to start any patterns of difficulty with him.
Coco, you may remember, went crazy during breeding season and injured several birds. I didn't handle it right, and now he is confined to his cage. Actually, I don't know how I could have handled it -- confining him to his cage earlier would have saved some toenails on other birds... There is a very fine balance that you have to acheive to be a good bird person. Breeding season tests all of that to the max.
