Haunted House Review by: Billy
Fright(less) Farms is how this haunt must be described. In an October 5th, article written by Mark Hofmann of the Daily Courier - Mr. Tom Rich, owner of the 17 year old attraction states the following:
"Our attendance increases 15 percent every year," Rich said. "You have to stay fresh or that's not going to happen."
Some of the newer attractions this year include a claustrophobic tunnel at the entrance and an outdoor pallet maze with a strobe light to disorient patrons. There are dispensers throughout the house that emit different smells to accompany whatever someone would come face to face with, and there are more than 100 actors spread throughout the house and the areas outside.
I entered the "claustrophobic tunnel" a 12 foot blow up tunnel - big deal. I enjoyed the work that goes into making the outdoor pallet maze - yet was looking for one of the more than 100 actors - didn't see any. As for the dispensers throughout the house that emit different smells is Mr. Rich talking about the actor who spray's you with water, or perhaps the tripping hazards, maybe it's the rubber hose that gave me a bruise, surely it's not the tripping hazards outside as you walk towards your next wait?
The "Ancient Encounters" was very well crafted - the work that went into this is well respected - the actors where no where to be found.
Mr. Rich continues his comments:
"While the Fright Farm continues to change every year, what remains the same is the hayride to the haunted house, the outside bonfire, live music on the outdoor stage, the concession stand and special guest celebrities, which Rich said they're still working on signing to make an appearance at the farm."
I agree that it did in fact change from last year even the hayride was different. The hayride was as lamb as last year except for the fire breaking hong kong thing - which by the way was not shown - (Side note) we were all chilled and were looking forward to some heat.
The concession stand was well received by our group - the food was like anywhere - we were hungry and it did not matter.
Sorry to report that we did not see any outside bonfires, otherwise we would of warmed up to one. The music was live as all six people jammed to the beat. I can not comment on as guest celebrities as he is still working on signing.
We did not experience the 7.5 acre corn maze - sad but it was dark and we were told it is only open in the daylight. Sorry but the trip is not worth coming back for the maze.
Now for the grits of the review - the haunted house. All lite in red, a wonderful sight to see. Oh, I could not wait to get inside that very large looking construction. The hayride - minus the hay; was so long and boring. Again, where are the over 100 actors? We saw two men in a $5.99 "Jason" mask, one girl on a horse, lots of quickly thrown together props, a man hanging over head with christmas decoration all around (what is that about) and ohhh yes lots of wasted space getting to the house and/or very nicely lite red house.
Finally, we arrived to the entrance - the view was right in front of us. Oh how cool it looked, it really is a wonderful site - drive by and save your money.
We were greeted by a man who attempted to portray some sort of zombie - he spoke the magic rules - once again another haunted house telling us what and how to act. Can't anyone tell these guys who operate haunted houses that is why you have that green sign on your ticket booth?
Moving on....about 50 or more of us all entered the house - so now it's defined as a walk-thru - good to know. The sets looked great - I think they purchased them from the once famed: "Terror Mania" keep in mind they looked very good, so that really sets Fright Farm apart - you can tell the difference - I really liked the opening presentation and first part of the walk-thru even though it might of been the work of a master from Terror Mania.
Note: Before I forget, the lack of music - lack of actor(s) (where are those 100 actors) - lack of acting ability - just lack of a real haunted experience left me with a lacking of being taken for $10.00.
Once inside the haunt we were shortly taken back outside - side note; are those back wall barriers legal - of the 48 minutes the haunt took, 28 minutes was waiting in line to the next part. It is actually a 20 minute haunt with LOTS OF WAITING, WAITING, WAITING.
There will be a wait before I return - that's for sure. So to sum up the best in Fright Less Farm - I got more of a charge out of all the people around us complaining about the lack of scares then anything.
I am glad to be apart of the only true haunted experience around. I am always looking for better - and keep being sent back to my own little haunt. I have the best you can get - fact.
I wish I can write a review that is more positive - Fright Farm sucked this year - and last. I think you should decide for yourself and go there then come to Demon House and see what I am full of.
I think they had about 20 total actors there that night, and the sad part is that i'm never going to get back that wasted half an hour of my life! If the people really want to get the most scare for their buck, then take a trip to Demon House, it's worth it!
I worked for those clowns for 3 years... they'll basically hire any kid off of the street, throw a mask on him/her, and pay 'em $20 a night. "Over 100 actors"... that's BS. They hire about 40-50 actors at the beginning of the year, but more than half of them quit within 1 week because the management is a load of condescending jerks. I'll never go back to 'Fright Farm'.
