Does Herbalife offer inner peace?

I was wondering because the ad on top of our inner peace discussion is now a Herbalife distributor.

Do the same people who look in quest of inner peace like quack nostrums?

Or are they?

What's your view?

And what can I do here? I have to love all our sponsors and there's Herbalife up there :-(. Should I surrender to the lure of filthy lucre and hope someone buys Herbalife?

Herbalife would not bring inner peace, because Herbalife is concerned with making money, being successful, etc. Did I ever tell you that at one point in my life I was convinced that Zen was a communist plot???

Herbalife, of course, is a product. It's supposed to offer good nutrition, and on the whole epitomize a philosophy of wholistic, vitamin-driven health.

Could the product itself be good for inner peace, or is it just another quack nostrum?

Or are some Herbalife products good and others bad for inner peace?

And if you are just going to buy the products, instead of selling them, could their use be good for inner peace, if it aided your health?

Did you hear the story of Mark Hughes, founder of Herbalife, who died of an overdose of his own pills? It seemed somehow ... fitting.

Balance is key. In order to obtain inner peace, one must be balanced in all aspects of life, including nutrition. Do you think Herbalife is balanced?

Selling it definitely would not create inner peace. I'm not sure about using it because I don't know enough about it.

They have pills that can kill you? Now that doesn't sound promising at all...

Well, I think almost anything, even water, can kill you if you take too of it. I've always thought extreme health obsession is a little creepy - maybe that's why I swing so far in the other direction.

I wonder if you have a job that involves selling if there is any way to gain inner peace while still keeping the job. I know that when I've been around salespeople, it seems like an extremely stressful life.

I don't think a job that entails trying to convince someone to do something they probably don't really want to do could bring inner peace. Inner peace is achieved by total acceptance, and the cessation of the desire to change anyone else. Not a good plan for sales, is it? :-)

But it sounds almost like the cessation of life. If you no longer desire something, no longer want to accomplish anything and no longer want anyone to change, what are you doing exactly?

What's left of life? Watching TV?

No, no TV. You are on a different plane. I will admit that I have always balked at the idea of total detachment, which is why I have never seriously pursued Zen.

Actually, what you do is focus on the present, and concentrate on whatever it is you are actually doing. For example, I am concentrating on writing this message, and the background, where I might be thinking that I need to do laundry or clean Stickley's cage, is silent. And when I am done with this message, I will totally focus on the next thing, which may be doing laundry. It is an attempt to stay in the present at all times...
